How the Hub Uses Cookies

Last updated: October 2026

The short answer: the hub does not use cookies to follow you, measure you or sell advertising. The only thing the site remembers is your answer to the notice at the bottom of the screen, and it remembers that on your own device.

What a cookie is, briefly

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Cookies can be harmless, like remembering a language setting, or they can be used to track browsing across many sites for advertising. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps small values on your device without sending them back to the server automatically.

What this site stores

What is keptStored inReasonKept until
Your banner answerYour browser's local storageStops the notice from reappearing on every pageUntil you clear site data

That is the entire list. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no social media cookies and no third-party scripts that could set their own.

So why show a notice?

Even a site with nothing to hide should say so plainly, and the notice is the simplest way to point readers to this explanation. Whichever button you choose, the site behaves the same, because there is nothing optional to switch on or off.

Removing the stored answer

  1. In your browser, open the settings area that handles privacy and stored site data.
  2. Search for the site's address in the list of stored data.
  3. Remove the entry. The banner will appear again on your next visit.

Private or incognito windows usually discard local storage when they close, so the banner may show up each time you browse that way.

Hosting and server records

Separately from cookies, the hosting provider's servers keep brief technical logs when pages are requested. Those are explained on Privacy on the Hub, together with your rights over personal data.

If this ever changes

Should a future feature need a cookie, this page would be updated first and the banner would ask for consent before anything optional was set. Questions in the meantime can go to inbox@pescadoresdegalapagos.org or through the contact page.
